Elliot Yamin is an American singer who rose to fame as a contestant on the fifth season of the reality television series American Idol, in 2006. He was recognized for his soulful voice and his ability to connect with the audience.
Born on July 20, 1978, in Los Angeles, California, Yamin was raised by his mother and attended T.C. Williams High School in Virginia. He struggled with partial hearing loss and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 16.
Yamin auditioned for American Idol in Boston and impressed the judges with his rendition of "A Song for You" by Leon Russell. He went on to finish in third place, behind Katharine McPhee and Taylor Hicks, but gained a loyal fanbase and critical acclaim for his performances.
After American Idol, Yamin released three studio albums, titled Elliot Yamin (2007), Fight for Love (2009), and Let's Get to What's Real (2015). His most successful single, "Wait for You," reached No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was certified platinum by the RIAA.
Yamin also toured extensively and collaborated with other musicians, including Quincy Jones and Donny Hathaway. He continues to make music and perform, and has remained a beloved figure in the American Idol community.
